Racing Car Games - Puzzle Car Race (Young Puzzles)

Puzzle Car Race (Young Puzzles)

Puzzle Car Race (Young Puzzles)

Customer Review: A bit different than the others in the series

We have nine books in this Puzzle series (Ocean, Planet, Castle, Pyramid, Dungeon, Farm, Jungle, Mountain, and Car Race). We just got this one and it's a bit different than the rest. In general, it's the same formula with a few slight changes. There are several puzzles regarding calculating the time, and some addition. This is the first book in the series that I have encountered with time telling puzzles. For example, one puzzle asks when the car race started, after telling you that they started off 15 minutes after they arrived. So, you need to look at the clock, be able to read it to say it's 8:15am, and then know that 15 minutes later would be 8:30am. Once we calculated the time together the first time we read it, the boys aren't really interested in doing that puzzle again. They already know the answer. So, I don't see it as very interesting on a re-reading basis.

Also, the book is lacking the feature where they show you a set of 10-12 objects on the intro page, and you have to find one on each double page spread. It does have a person you are supposed to locate on each page, but not the feature of finding the myriad objects (one of the features of the other books that my boys most enjoy).

In general, I did not like the puzzles in this book as much as the puzzles in the others. The concept of the story is a nice one (they are competing in a road race), but I was vaguely disappointed in the puzzle execution. My boys (4 and 6) like the book, and have been reading it on vacation, but I think that is the newness novelty of it. Ocean, Planet, Pyramid and Dungeon are probably their favorites.
